A 23-year-old woman has today appeared in court on allegations of smuggling and selling dildos to school-going children in Harare. Ayanda Unity Mponda, who trades her items via social media, appeared at Mbare Magistrates Court charged with violating the Customs and Excise Act and exposing children to pornographic material. She was not asked to plead to the charges and was remanded in custody to tomorrow for bail application. Mponda is known for her ‘explicit’ marketing on her social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.
HIGH Court judges of appeal on Thursday ruled in favour of the late former President Robert Mugabe's children who are challenging the exhumation of their father's remains for re-burial at the National Heroes Acre Bona Mutsahuni, Tinotenda and Bellarmine were challenging an order for the exhumation of Mugabe's remains and confiscation of their livestock as ordered by Chief Zvimba, Stanley Mhondoro. In the judgment, Justices Amy Tsanga and Fatima Maxwell ruled against Chinhoyi magistrate Ruth Moyo who had ruled Mugabe's children had no rights to appeal against a judgment handed by the traditional court against their mother, Grace. In May 2021, Chief Zvimba ordered the exhumation of Mugabe from his rural home. The court also fined Grace for breaking burial rites
High Court judges Neville Wamambo and Emilia Muchawa have barred Norton MP Temba Mliswa from sending his two children to cheaper government schools, saying he could afford fees at private institutions. This comes after Mliswa had challenged a 2016 ruling by the magistrates court directing him to pay ZWL 8 000 (USD$48) for maintenance plus fees at a private school for the children he sired with Cynthia Mugwira. The outspoken independent legislator appealed against the school fees order, claiming he could only afford to send his children to a government institution.
