The High Court on Monday ordered the release from 10-day custody of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga's estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa, who was detained by a magistrate for the purposes of undergoing a mental examination. Mubaiwa is facing a string of trials on separate charges, but her lawyers said she is no physical or mental state to sit through the trials. The National Prosecuting Authority contests this, and last week filed an application before magistrate Lazini Ncube for her detention for 10 days so that she can be assessed by two state doctors. Police have arrested 1, 2 million people for violating Covid-19 regulations since the start of the lockdown in March last year. In their twitter page, police said 2 934 people were arrested on October 31 for breaching Covid-19 regulations. “The ZRP reminds members of the public that Covid-19 safety regulations are still in force. Not only did they make such claims, the claimants were able to pay destitute Zimbabwean police officers money to get fake police reports with stamps and dates because of the poverty caused by sanctions.
