The seven-year-old Murehwa boy, whose mutilated body was found being eaten by dogs, was kidnapped and murdered last week for ritual purposes, allegedly by a herder and two others who sold the body parts for US$1 500, police said yesterday. Police yesterday arrested, Tafadzwa Shamba, on kidnap and murder charges and are now hunting down the two suspected accomplices. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi gave details of the progress of investigations yesterday. “It is alleged that Tafadzwa Shamba, a herd boy in the same village as the victim, worked with the other suspects to waylay the victim in a garden. They took him to a mountain where they kept him for the whole day. They then killed him at night and one of the other suspects, who is from Juru Grow
THE US government has called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to uphold constitutional rights and end ongoing political repression and corruption in Zimbabwe. This emerged Wednesday evening during a meeting between Assistant Secretary for US Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs, Tibor Nagy and Zimbabwe’s Foreign Minister Sibusiso Moyo. The meeting came as political tensions continue to rise in the troubled southern African country and on the back of a government crackdown on several senior opposition leaders, activists and journalists on various charges including inciting public violence. A number of activists went into hiding July this year after the State launched a crackdown on organisers of the foiled July 31 anti-corruption protest
Authorities in Vietnam uncovered a vast number of used condoms being recycled and stocked for sale following a raid on an apartment on Saturday. According to local market monitors, nearly 324,000 used condoms, equivalent to 360 kilos, were recycled at the facility and would be sold on the market later. They confiscated all products at the facility, which is located at DX12, Hoa Nhut Quarter, Tan Vinh Hiep Ward, Binh Duong Province, located in southern Vietnam. Upon their swoop on the illegal production base, all the used condoms were found unpackaged and unlabeled. Pham Thi Thanh Ngoc, owner of the facility, who comes from Nghe An Province, admitted that she had received a monthly input of used condoms from an unknown person. The used condoms then underwent a process inclu
OPPOSITION MDC Alliance candidate for Marondera mayoral elections, Bornface Tagwireyi, was yesterday defeated by MDCT candidate Simbarashe Nyahuye in a tight contest held at council chambers. Nyahuye polled four votes, while Tagwireyi got three votes, as the Thokozani Khupe-led party continued decimating Chamisa's camp. Seven councillors cast their votes, including a Zanu-PF councillor, resulting in Nyahuye landing the mayoral post. Speaking after the elections, MDC-T interim secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora said: "We are elated at the election of councillor Nyahuye. We recalled those councillors after realising that they had ceased to be members of the MDC-T as well as being involved in corruption." Mwonzora added that his next target was Harare City Council.
Unconfirmed But Nelson Chamisa To Rename Party Alliance for Democractic Change ADC. Vuka Vuka posted the following on his Facebook page BREAKING NEWS Unconfirmed reports are saying (ADC) is the new name and press conference will be done not sure time and date. Issue solved.
A ZIMBABWEAN human rights lawyer says the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa is unlikely to seek a court order to stop the Thokozani Khupe MDC-T from using the Alliance to field candidates in the forthcoming parliamentary and council elections. In an interview, Matshobana Ncube said seeking a court order in the High Court to block the MDC-T from using the Alliance would be a waste of time. The MDC Alliance might go to court to seek an interdict but my worry is that with the decision of the Supreme Court in place, if one had to go to the High Court to seek such an interdict, the High Court will always refer one to the Supreme Court decision to say that question was settled in that Supreme Court decision and so the High Court being an inferior court
High Court judge, Justice Erica Ndewere has granted Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala ZWL$ 50 000 bail. The opposition, MDC Alliance’s deputy chairperson’s was initially granted ZWL$ 25 000 bail, but it was raised to ZW$50 000 after court heard he has no title deeds to any of his properties. Justice Ndewere was unconvinced by the magistrate court’s earlier findings that the MP was likely to be a fugitive. “An accused person must be admitted to bail so that he keeps the fabric of his life in place,” she said. Sikhala, who has been in remand for more than 30 days, is facing charges of inciting public violence ahead of the failed July 31 protests. He was ordered to report thrice a week at St Mary’s police and is not allowed to record inciteful content. Sikhala w
HIGH Court judge Erica Ndewere Tuesday granted MDC Alliance vice-chairperson Job Sikhala $50 000 bail. Sikhala is facing charges of inciting public violence. He was arrested last month and has been in remand prison after he was denied bail at the magistrates’ court. In her ruling, the judge attacked the police of using social media in their investigations instead of establishing their own independent probe. She said Sikhala’s conduct was not of a fugitive running from the law, but he was fleeing from unidentified men who were following. Justice Ndewere also blamed the police for using a vague press statement instead of calling Sikhala’s lawyer. She then ordered Sikhala to pay $50 000 with the Harare magistrates’ court’s clerk of court. He was also
A lonely British grandmother who was conned out of £18,000 by her Ghanaian toyboy lover and accused of BEATING him has warned other women not to be as naive as she was. The situation is eerily similar to that of socialite Olinda Chapel who accused musician Tytan Skhokho of using her to get UK papers. Tytan also claimed that he was being physically abused by Olinda. The Daily Mail reports that former probation officer Beth Haining fell for Rodney Cudjoe, a Ghanaian musician 30 years her junior. ‘I’ve been a stupid old woman who should know better,’ said 68-year-old Beth, of Redditch in Worcestershire. ‘I used to laugh at women who fall for these good-looking toyboys from abroad and think how gullible they are. Now I’m one of them.’ G
Spokesperson for the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance, Fadzayi Mahere says the fight between her party and the rival MDC-T faction is not about the name but the ruling Zanu PF party which is stalking her party. Her remarks come in the wake of pronouncements by MDC-T national chairman Morgen Komichi that the party would assume the name MDC Alliance in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for December 5 this year. In an interview with a local radio station, Mahere said there was no confusion in the minds of the electorate because of the 2018 election outcome. “This is not a fight about the name MDC, this is a fight about the representatives of a cause that is genuinely against Zanu PF. If it were just about the MDC Alliance is different from the name MDC-T. The two are different e
