NOTWITHSTANDING the internal damage that the MDC's infighting is causing, the party's senseless wars are escalating - amid growing fears that the once formidable movement could soon implode altogether. So bad is the MDC's mindless bloodletting pitting two rabidly antagonistic groups led by Thokozani Khupe and Nelson Chamisa, that dejected senior party officials told the Daily News last night that they were losing hope about the future of the political outfit that was founded by the revered, but now late Morgan Tsvangirai. This comes as political analysts have warned both Khupe and Chamisa that they risk becoming irrelevant due to their poor leadership and inability to resolve their differences - to the glee of the ruling Zanu-PF. "We are rudderless and leaderless.

MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora says the level of intolerance being displayed by Nelson Chamisa was not only shocking but totally repugnant of modern dictates of common decency in leadership. This follows attacks on him by the MDC Alliance leader at the burial of a party official over the weekend. “I learnt with dismay the unprovoked utterances against my person attributed to Advocate Chamisa at the recent funeral service of the late Hon Miriam Mushayi,” Mwonzora said. “The unfortunate diatribe against my person, characterised by the unsavoury name calling was not only unfortunate but regrettable given that this was coming from a man calling himself the people’s president. “The level of intolerance displayed by the president of the Alliance
High Court Judge Justice Erica Ndewere has reserved judgement on the bail appeal by incarcerated opposition MDC Alliance Vice Chairman Job Sikhala. Ndewere said the Clerk of Court will advise defence lawyers and law officers when her ruling will be ready to be handed down. Sikhala was arrested last month and charged with inciting violence in connection with July 31st protests against corruption. One of his lawyers Harrison Nkomo said they were happy that the High Court had given the chance to argue over Sikhala bail hearing against the State. He however, said his client was unhealthy. “I’m glad to announce that consistent with our wish, today the High Court has granted us an opportunity to argue a bail appeal in respect of his case against the State. “We a
The MDC Alliance has rejected Zanu-PF attempts to link the party to the shooting death of a soldier in Chivhu last week, and claims that Zimbabwe's main opposition party is training insurgents in Serbia and Moldova. Zanu-PF acting spokesman Patrick Chinamasa made the claims at a news conference on Friday. Referring to the Chivhu incident where a soldier was shot dead and two others wounded after two men shot at them apparently unprovoked, Chinamasa said the ruling party had been "taken aback by statements of disparagement and ridicule coming from the MDC Alliance rank and file where they appear to be celebrating the attacks on the security forces, while pouring their hearts out for the assailants." "We have taken note," Chinamasa said, speaking at the Zanu-
MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa has described his former colleague Douglas Mwonzora, as a sell-out who was fighting an unwinnable petty agenda. For close to six months, Mwonzora, MDC-T interim secretary-general, has been on a warpath, frustrating the operations of the MDC Alliance through recalls on MPs and councillors claiming they had ceased to be MDC-T members. His strength is drawn from an earlier Supreme Court judgment that ruled Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC-T. The court judgement placed Thokozani Khupe as interim president of the party. The MDC-T has since been reconfigured using its 2014 structures and Mwonzora, who had been relegated to deputy secretary for international relations in the MDC Alliance, bounced back as interim secretary general.
BREAKING NEWS: Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe has been given a two-week ultimatum by Harare Magistrate Mazhande to pay RTGS$199 500 to Simon Mandoza, a student based in Gweru as compensation for damages he suffered when he was assaulted by some Zimbabwe Republic Police members in 2018. THE Thokozani Khupe-led MDC has been dragged into another fight by the Multiracial Christian Democrats (MCD) over the recent recall of MPs and subsequent nomination of their replacements. The Multiracial Christian Democrats (MCD) argues that the MDC-T is sidelining the smaller opposition party despite it being a major stakeholder in the 2017 electoral pact. The development follows allegations Khupe and her acolytes breached the Composite Political Cooperation Agreement (CPCA) of 2017 when the MDC-T caused the gazetting of a notice of nomination to fill parliamentary seats after the recall of some legislators. A fortnight ago, Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) also wrote a letter to the MDC-T demanding $1 million the party was allocated through the Political Parties "Indeed, we
