FIRST Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, who was fingered alongside her son Collins as owners of the gold bars weighing 6kg intercepted at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport last Monday, yesterday challenged the police to prove that she was an accomplice in the foiled attempt by businesswoman Henrietta Rushwaya to smuggle the mineral. Auxillia absolved herself and her son, and dared the Zimbabwe Republic Police to "clarify" how she was fingered by Rushwaya's alleged accomplice Gift Karanda (44), who told police detectives that the gold, worth over US$300 000, belonged to her and Collins. She also claimed her son Collins, was a "hard-working individual" and was not involved in any illegal activities. This was after a leaked internal police memorandum seen by New

IN another move to further disempower the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa, the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T yesterday removed Hwange Central MP Daniel Molokele from the chairmanship of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher and Tertiary Education. Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda yesterday announced that Molokele had been removed and replaced by Lindiwe Maphosa, who crossed over to the MDC-T. Maphosa came into Parliament in 2018 through a proportional representation (PR) seat under the MDC Alliance party list. The other replacements that were made to chairmanship of committees were, however, of MPs that were recalled from Parliament recently. In his announcement, Mudenda said: “The MDC-T has nominated the following to be chairpersons of committees; So

An internal police memo seen by Zimbolive says after Rushwaya’s arrest at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport with 6kg of gold in her handbag, Gift Karanda tried to intercede on her behalf. THE second phase of schools reopening today is set to increase the chaos in schools with teachers escalating their labour dispute with government over poor remuneration. Zimbabwe’s school calendar has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic which forced government to close all centres of learning since March. However, a phased reopening has been upended by the dispute between government and teachers over salaries. Teachers are demanding that their salaries be pegged at US$520 per month. This was their salary before the reintroduction of the local currency. They have also pushed to be paid its equivalent at the official exchange rate, which works out to $42 000 from the $11 000 they are currently earning, including the US$75 monthly COVID-19 allowance. Zimbabwe's billion dollar mining sector wants to wholly retain foreign currency receipts to be able to pay royalties, taxes and other levies which the authorities want them paid fully in United States dollars in a fresh headache for the forex starved economy. The mining sector contributes over 60% of Zimbabwe's export earnings which is used to oil the economy through the importation of essential raw materials for production and drugs. At the moment, large scale miners retain 70% of their export proceeds which has to be liquidated in 60 days. The balance is paid in local currency at the prevailing auction rate. A totally bogus doctor, a young man without a medical qualification to his name, worked in the Parirenyatwa casualty unit for seven months until Tuesday this week, accepted by staff, security and patients simply because he wore a white coat and carried a stethoscope. Admire Chisi (25) was finally rumbled when the head of casualty took an interest, found the young man was remarkably ignorant, investigated and called the police, who took him away on charges of impersonating a public officer although other charges may be laid. It is unlikely that he was paid, but that is not yet certain But what concerns a lot of people is how human resources, security and hospital administration generally could admit him into the building, let alone allow him to deal with patients, for so long.
