Air Marshall Perence Shiri Declared A National Hero

Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri who died this morning, has been declared a national hero. According to senior ruling party politburo members, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is going to make the announcement later today, after the Politburo, which is currently meeting for an ordinary session finishes it's business.

"We all know that Perrance Shiri is a national hero. There is no need to deliberate on that. Mnangagwa will officially make the announcement later today, or the acting party secretary for information VaChinamasa," said one of the politburo members shortly before attending their morning meeting

 

Perence Shiri born Bigboy Samson Chikerema was a former Air Marshall of Zimbabwe Air Force, liberation war hero and Lands Minister. Perence Shiri died on 29 July 2020 at a local private hospital.

Cause of death

Perence Shiri's cause of death is not yet known but he had been admitted at a local hospital a few days after his driver had died of Covid-19 (coronavirus).

Education and Career

Perence Shiri joined the armed struggle as a teenager. After independence he joined the army and was later appointed the commander of  Zimbabwean Fifth Brigade in 1983. The Fifth Brigade is blamed for the Gukurahundi atrocities which happened in Matebeleland in the 1980s.

Shiri was appointed the commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe in 1992 taking over from Air Chief Marshal Josiah Tungamira. Shiri retired from the army in 2017 following the ouster of Robert Mugabe to become the Lands Minister.

Age

Perence Shiri was born on 11 January 1955. He died on 29 July 2020 at the age of 65.

Wife and Children Shiri's son, Titus Takudzwa Chikerema, died at the age of 21 in October 2013.
