GOKWE — An 18-year-old man from Gokwe South has been sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison for raping his 42-year-old aunt, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ). The assault occurred in the early hours of May 16, 2026, while the two were walking to a nearby village for a casual labour job, the prosecuting authority outlined in a crime bulletin released on Tuesday. At approximately 5:00 a.m., the teenager suddenly turned on his aunt along the route. Prosecutors stated that he grabbed the woman by the neck and tripped her to the ground. MATABELELAND North Province recorded a rise in murder cases during the first five months of the year, with 43 incidents reported between January and May, compared to 33 recorded during the same period last year. The figures were released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) following the arrest of murder suspects, Kwanele Phiri and Denford Moyo, in connection with the killing of Telford Hadasi in Inyathi on 30 May.
