The family of Soul Jah Love has barred individuals and music producers from releasing over 100 songs that were yet to be released when the late Zimdancehall star died. The family has since engaged the services of lawyers to ensure that no one violates their wishes.
Soul Jah Love, real name Soul Musaka was declared a liberation hero by the government following his untimely death last week. He was 31.
According to local publication, The Anchor, the “Ndini Uya Uya” star had over 100 songs on his phone which was stolen on the day that he died. Although the phone was later recovered in Mbare the next day, the memory card which had the unreleased songs was never recovered.
The song “Ndichafa Rinhiko” was released barely 24 hours after the talented artist’s death was announced. The family has since engaged the services of Harare lawyer Conwell Muteve to ensure that music producers and other individuals do not continue releasing the songs.
Muteve told The Anchor,
“Soul Jah Love’s phone was stolen on the day of his untimely death but was later recovered in Mbare. It is unfortunate that there was a memory card with more than 100 unreleased songs that was stolen. We never recovered it.”
Muteve said that the family did not want music producers to unjustly enrich themselves at the expense of Chibaba‘s two surviving siblings who are supposed to benefit from his works.
“We have since released a warning to the public and now we will engage producers to stop releasing his music. He has two siblings who will be benefiting from the songs.”
Soul Jah Love was buried at the Warren Hills cemetery over the weekend, where thousands of people defied Covid-19 lockdown restrictions to attend the burial. His family is reported to be divided over inheritance issues. According to the publication, some of the late musician’s relatives were engaged in a fistfight as they fought over his clothes and other belongings.
The talented musician is reported to have left a BMW X3 vehicle, two commuter omnibuses and several stands. However, a family member dismissed a picture circulating on social media showing an unfinished house that some claimed belonged to Soul Jah Love.
“I have seen people posting an unfinished house saying it belongs to him but that is a lie. Soul Jah Love has stands some legit and some he got from barons,” a family source said.
The musician’s friends are reported to have damaged the BMW X3 after they took it for a joy ride on the days that he died.
