Mnangagwa Sacrifices Obadiah Moyo With Arrest Over Covid-19 Funds

Health Minister Obadiah Moyo has finally been arrested over the Covid-19 tender scandal that saw him allow a dodgy company, Drax International to get a US$42 million contract to supply Covid-19 drugs and equipment without going to tender.

According to multiple reports the Minister he is being held at Rhodesville Police Station in Harare. Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) spokesperson Commissioner John Makamure confirmed the arrest. The minister is likely to appear in court tomorrow (Saturday).

Delish Nguwaya, the “local” representative of Drax International was arrested last week and is in remand prison after he was denied bail. Three senior officials from NatPharm who were also involved in the tender scam, appeared in court Wednesday and were granted $10 000 bail each.

Collins Mnangagwa, Finance minister Mthuli Ncube and his Permanent Secretary George Guvamatanga and Health minister Obadiah Moyo were allegedly involved in the scandal.

Collins and controversial businessman Delish Nguwaya (see picture) are the key suspects while the president’s top bodyguard, Valdano Brown, won lucrative contracts to supply Covid-19 equipment to the ministry of health without going through a competitive bidding process.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has opted to sacrifice Health minister Obadiah Moyo in the Covidgate scandal that involves his son Collins, analysts have alleged.

Obadiah Moyo was arrested on Friday evening by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) officials over a USD 60 million scandal that saw Drax International being awarded a tender without the requisite paperwork. ZACC spokesperson John Makamure confirmed the arrest.

“I can confirm that Minister Moyo has been arrested and is currently in police custody. That’s all I say for now,” he said.

Delish Nguwaya, the local representative of Drax International, is currently in remand prison after he was denied bail on Monday.

One of the front runners in exposing the scandal, award winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono piled more pressure on Mnangagwa’s government through stories and tweets. “I have been told by legal sources that Obadiah “DJ Biscuit” Moyo has been locked up at Rhodesville Police Station. I am waiting for a confirmation of the charges! His arrest in a normal country would result in an automatic FIRING. But Biscuit is Mnangagwa’s clansman. Wait & see,” Chin’ono tweeted.

Collins Mnangagwa, Finance minister Mthuli Ncube and his Permanent Secretary George Guvamatanga and Health minister Obadiah Moyo were allegedly involved in the scandal.

Collins and controversial businessman Delish Nguwaya are the key suspects while the president’s top bodyguard, Valdano Brown, won lucrative contracts to supply Covid-19 equipment to the ministry of health without going through a competitive bidding process.

The two companies allegedly belong to a group of firms owned or controlled by the First Family. Only Nguwaya and Moyo have been arrested so far.

Moyo is a second minister in Mnangagwa’s regime followed by former Tourism minister Prisca Mupfumira whose Nassa scandal of 2019 is still in the court and she is out.

Mesothelioma Wrongful Death Lawyer: Legal Help for Families

rnrn

Losing a loved one to mesothelioma is heartbreaking. Families may be left with medical bills, funeral costs, lost income, grief, and unanswered questions about where asbestos exposure happened.

rnrn

A mesothelioma wrongful death lawyer helps surviving family members pursue claims against companies responsible for asbestos exposure.

rnrn

These cases are time-sensitive, and the rules vary by state.

rnrn

What Is a Mesothelioma Wrongful Death Claim?

rnrn

A wrongful death claim is a legal claim filed after a person dies because of another party’s wrongful conduct.

rnrn

In mesothelioma cases, the claim usually alleges that asbestos exposure caused the disease and that companies failed to warn or protect people from asbestos dangers.

rnrn

Who Can File?

rnrn

Depending on state law, eligible parties may include:

rnrn

Spouse
rnChildren
rnParents
rnEstate representative
rnPersonal representative
rnOther dependents or heirs

rnrn

A lawyer can explain who has authority to file in your state.

rnrn

What Damages May Be Available?

rnrn

A wrongful death claim may seek compensation for:

rnrn

Medical expenses before death
rnFuneral expenses
rnBurial costs
rnLost income
rnLoss of financial support
rnLoss of companionship
rnPain and suffering, where allowed
rnLoss of household services
rnFamily emotional losses

rnrn

State law controls what damages are available.

rnrn

What Evidence Is Needed?

rnrn

Families may need:

rnrn

Death certificate
rnMedical records
rnPathology report
rnWork history
rnMilitary records
rnExposure history
rnMarriage certificate
rnBirth certificates
rnEstate documents
rnFuneral bills
rnIncome records
rnWitness statements

rnrn

If the patient gave deposition testimony before death, that testimony may be important.

rnrn

What If the Patient Never Filed a Lawsuit?

rnrn

A family may still have legal options even if the patient did not file a lawsuit while alive.

rnrn

However, deadlines may be short. The statute of limitations may run from the date of death or another date depending on state law.

rnrn

Asbestos Trust Fund Wrongful Death Claims

rnrn

Some asbestos bankruptcy trusts allow wrongful death claims.

rnrn

Trust claims may require:

rnrn

Medical diagnosis
rnExposure evidence
rnProof of death
rnFamily relationship documents
rnEstate authority
rnWork history
rnProduct or jobsite evidence

rnrn

Why Families Should Act Quickly

rnrn

Waiting can make the case harder because:

rnrn

Documents may be lost
rnWitnesses may become unavailable
rnWork history may be harder to confirm
rnLegal deadlines may expire
rnTrust rules may change
rnMedical records may take time to obtain

rnrn

Final Thoughts

rnrn

A mesothelioma wrongful death lawyer can help families seek accountability after asbestos-related cancer takes a loved one’s life.

rnrn

No legal claim can replace the person you lost. But compensation may help with medical bills, funeral costs, lost income, and family support.

rnrn

If your loved one died from mesothelioma, speak with an experienced asbestos lawyer quickly to protect your family’s rights.
