Hopewell Chin’ono To Spend Fourth Night Locked Up

Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who was arrested on Monday on charges of inciting the public to protest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration on the 31st of July will spend his fourth night behind bars after the Harare Magistrates Court rolled over the matter to tomorrow.

The court had to adjourn due to the curfew laws put imposed on the country by the government to curb the spread of COVID-19. 

Before the adjournement of the court, Chin’ono’s lawyer was making submissions on her application for bail pending trial.

Posting on Twitter, MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti said;

“So Hope will spend a further night in remand after the bail application proceedings were adjourned due to Mnangagwa s curfew laws ,SI 174 . Bail is elementary & should be granted as of right .State capture is pervasive .State capture is a crime against humanity.”
