Q&A Captain Teeyi
Zimbolinews: Who are you?
Captain Teeyi: My name is Teeyi captain, majority of people call me Captain Teeyi, I am comfortable with whichever way people call me at the end of the day it does not make much difference. I am a comedian, actress, entertainer, free spirit and I always like to see people with a smile on face. By the way Teeyi captain is a nick name which I gave to myself when I first started doing comedy on social media. I call myself captain because the title is frequently honorary, in some cases it has significant responsibility for strategy and teamwork, in addition I possess the following basic characteristics, I am mentally strong, have been criticised at some point within the community and outside for posting my skits on social media. I have learned to remain focused while under intense pressure and also to accept positive criticism. I have positive leadership skills, strong spirit, supportive, caring, fair attitude, respectful conduct towards self, others and good role model. I was born and raised in Zimbabwe. I am a mother of three lovely boys.

Zimbolinews: How long have you been in Diaspora?
Captain Teeyi: Many years.
Zimbolinews: What advice would you give to the Youth?
Captain Teeyi: Be focused, Stay away from crime, toxic relationship, set your goals and work hard to achieve them.
Zimbolinews: What do you think about Zimdancehall?
Captain Teeyi: There are some shining artistes who seem to be going in a positive direction. Not all but some lyrics fan violence among youth; they do more harm than good to children who follow music. Some songs praise the use of illicit drugs which has a negative impact on health and social life.
Zimbolinews: Are you married, dating or single?
Captain Teeyi: Single
Zimbolinews: Which Zimbabwean male celebrity do you have a crush on?
Captain Teeyi: It has never crossed my mind to be honest. I see all of them as equal.
Zimbolinews: Does size matter?
Captain Teeyi: I don’t understand the question; therefore I am not in a position to answer.
Zimbolinews: How did you get started on Social Media?
Captain Teeyi: Mid 2014 was a very difficult period for me. I lost my loved one, was getting depressed, fortunately I recognised the symptoms at the earliest stage then I told myself that I was not going to accept or allow myself to be engulfed by depression, I had to find ways and means on how to combat boredom, deal with the situation not in a maladaptive coping mechanism but in a way which can install my happiness back. Although prior i had a Facebook account, I was not utilising it frequently due to busy schedules, also fear of becoming hooked and addictive to social media. I remember very well one afternoon I logged onto my FB account and came across some videos post which made me laugh on Zvirikufaya na keda. I liked and enjoyed all the videos which were on the platform and became addicted watching then daily. One day I did a video and sent it to Curtis Smith ( the founder of keda TV) to upload it on his page. It got so many viewers, there were a mixture of positive and negative comments but I never paid full attention to negative comments. We got the support from Curtis, he appealed to the general public not to write offensive comments, on all videos posted but some toxic viewers carried on despite, however, this did not stop me instead I became mentally strong as I found it to be a challenge. I was nominated one of the admin a position which I am forever grateful. So many things happened behind the screen/ curtains, we the crew behind keda TV used to communicate to each other and plan for the show. Mukoma Masimba used to write some scrips for me. I was popularly known on Keda TV Captain Teeyi Mukadzi wemakuwha. When keda TV closed down I carried on doing my skits on my Facebook page. I have my own page called Teeyi captain on Facebook. I also teamed up with Mbuya Riri and stitched and opened Boost raw talent page on Facebook. We encourage everyone from different walks of life to send us their videos showing talent or raw talent. The aim is to promote entertainment industry and to empower. So basically that’s how I started. Looking back I have always wanted to be an actress since I was 10 years, however circumstances did not allow due to number of factors which I am not willing to reveal at the moment.
Zimbolinews: Where do you get your sense of humour from?
Captain Teeyi: It comes natural. It’s in my blood.
Zimbolinews: What something you would like all your fans to know about you?
Captain Teeyi: I am a very nice person and I treat each individual with respect and dignity. I do not swear or use vulgar language.
