Zimbabwean DJ Faces UK Deportation After Assaulting Girlfriend In A Drunken Rage

UK-based Zimbabwean DJ who thoroughly attacked his girlfriend in a drunken rage on New Year’s Day in 2020 will be deported after his prison sentence.

Darlent Zirebwa, of Kingsley, is one of the greatest talents to emerge from the sugar-producing town of Chiredzi in Masvingo province.

Zirebwa, 30, will be deported after serving his two-year jail term after a British Northampton Crown Court sentenced him to 24 months in prison.

The DJ broke his girlfriend’s ribs in the attack after a night out in the first few hours of 2020 but she was too afraid of him to even take herself to hospital for treatment for months after.

Northampton Crown Court judge, Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking made clear in her ruling that she knew it was not a one-off and scolded him as a violent bully.

She said this was a brutal and sustained assault that Zirebwa continued even after his girlfriend had told him she was hurt.

She also said Zirebwa’s girlfriend was right when she described him in court as a brute and a bully adding that she was convinced the DJ was violent to his girlfriend during the course of their relationship.
A victim impact statement from the woman, read out by prosecutor Stephen Donnelly, read: “I will forever be looking over my shoulder fearing that Zirebwa is coming for me.”

Northampton Chronicle reports that the court also heard that the DJ has been handed a deportation order for reasons not read out to the judge.

The court heard how Zirebwa was also jailed for two years in 2016 for a drunken assault against the same woman, where he beat her so badly she was hospitalized for a suspected bleed on the brain.
