MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa has described his former colleague Douglas Mwonzora, as a sell-out who was fighting an unwinnable petty agenda. For close to six months, Mwonzora, MDC-T interim secretary-general, has been on a warpath, frustrating the operations of the MDC Alliance through recalls on MPs and councillors claiming they had ceased to be MDC-T members. His strength is drawn from an earlier Supreme Court judgment that ruled Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC-T. The court judgement placed Thokozani Khupe as interim president of the party. The MDC-T has since been reconfigured using its 2014 structures and Mwonzora, who had been relegated to deputy secretary for international relations in the MDC Alliance, bounced back as interim secretary general.
THE Thokozani Khupe-led MDC has been dragged into another fight by the Multiracial Christian Democrats (MCD) over the recent recall of MPs and subsequent nomination of their replacements. The Multiracial Christian Democrats (MCD) argues that the MDC-T is sidelining the smaller opposition party despite it being a major stakeholder in the 2017 electoral pact. The development follows allegations Khupe and her acolytes breached the Composite Political Cooperation Agreement (CPCA) of 2017 when the MDC-T caused the gazetting of a notice of nomination to fill parliamentary seats after the recall of some legislators. A fortnight ago, Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) also wrote a letter to the MDC-T demanding $1 million the party was allocated through the Political Parties "Indeed, we
DEFENCE deputy minister Victor Matemadanda has unwittingly exposed government's hand in the alleged abduction and forced disappearances of opposition and human rights activists after he bragged that "sell-outs will be dealt with and will disappear mysteriously". Addressing a Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial co-ordinating committee meeting in Mutare on Sunday, Matemadanda, who is the party's national political commissar, said: "I told other people that if you are a sell-out, and if you wake up and pursue your sell-out activities while people are sleeping, this country has something that it will do to you. "You will disappear without anyone touching you. This country will deal with you mysteriously. This country is a mystery, you just can't do as you please
MDC Alliance has welcomed renewed attempts to resolve the country's crisis by South Africa's ruling African National Congress. ANC and State President Cyril Ramaphosa told South African media soon after his party's National Executive Meeting Monday that his governing party had resolved to engage all stakeholders in Zimbabwe. Ramaphosa said his country "felt" the challenges being experienced by its troubled neighbour and was keen on seeing an end to the crisis. Speaking to NewZimbabwe tuesday, MDC-Alliance secretary for international relations and cooperation Gladys Hlatywayo said these were signs that South Africa understood the implications of a neighbouring country that is turmoil. "It shows you that the Zimbabwe crisis is more of a domestic po
Linda Masarira, leader of the Labour Economists and Afrikan Democats (LEAD), opposition party, has slammed the country’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, for initiating the land compensation program to some white commercial farmers who were dispossessed of their farms more than a decade ago, during the land reform program under the stewardship of the late former President, Robert Mugabe. “The land question is the most important issue that caused our ancestors to engage in the first Chimurenga, the second Chimurenga was fought on the same issue of the land question. The government is trying to gain favor from the western world by reversing the land reform, they are betraying and spitting on those who sacrificed their lives to regain our land back. Our leadership failed to

GOVERNMENT has expressed utter dismay following unwarranted comments by US Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Brian Nichols in which he continues to attack the country’s political and economic programmes in clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Mr Nichols claimed that Zimbabwe was in political turmoil in an interview with The Sunday Times of South Africa, in stark contradiction to the reality obtaining in the country. He also alleged that there was gross violation of human rights in Zimbabwe without substantiating his claims. Government said Mr Nichols’ actions were objectionable and stand in violation of diplomatic missions’ obligations under the Vienna Convention. In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Tr
THE battle to replace recalled Harare mayor Herbert Gomba has emerged between fierce rivals Thokozani Khupe and Nelson Chamisa. Gomba was recalled from council early this month by the Khupe-led MDC-T, which claimed he was no longer a member of the party. The embattled former mayor elected on MDC Alliance ticket 2018 also lost his post as a councillor for Ward 27 in Glen Norah. He is also facing corruption charges and was recently arrested and is currently out on bail after spending days in remand prison. However, according to sources in both MDC Alliance and MDC-T, there is a fierce fight pitting the parties as both selected their candidates to contest for the post. The MDC-T preferred candidate Luckson Mukunguma, and the MDC Alliance’s The MDC-T preferred cand
Three MDC Alliance (MDC-A) councillors have dumped the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance and joined the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe. The development was confirmed by MDC-T secretary for women’s assembly in Mbizo district, Rita Munyorovi-Svova. Munyorovi-Svova revealed that the councillors are from Ward 2, 11 and 12. She said: They all belong to MDC-T. In fact, they must not make the mistake of following an individual (Nelson Chamisa) but should follow the party (MDC-T). People should read and understand the constitution of the MDC-T. Meanwhile, MDC-A Midlands secretary for information Takavafira Zhou said it is the democratic right of the three councillors to decide on whomever they want to associate with. Said Zhou: In politics, there is freedom of association and disasso
Zimbabwe opposition party, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said that it was forced to call off a planned demonstration at Beitbridge Border Post after it failed to secure permission from the South African government. The opposition party had planned to “blockade” the border between Zimbabwe and South Africa on 31 August in protest over the crackdown on human rights defenders and journalists in Zimbabwe by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government. EFF president Innocent Ndibali told NewZimbabwe.com that his party had to cancel the planned demonstration after Pretoria did not give the green light for the event to go ahead. He said: Due to multiple factors beyond our control, EFF Zimbabwe has with difficulty and sadness seen it necessary to call off the planned prote
