Pressure keeps mounting on MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa as his former top lieutenant and now MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora has said that MDC Alliance name belongs to the MDC-T and they are contemplating using the name in the forthcoming parliamentary and local authority by-elections. When the Supreme Court judgment reverted MDC-T back to its 2014 structures, rendering the presidency of Chamisa null and void, there has been turmoil in the biggest opposition movement in the country with Thokozani Khupe, through Mwonzora, taking the fight to Chamisa and all his sympathisers. The legitimacy fight between Khupe and Chamisa has claimed the scalp of many legislators and councilors who have been caught in the crossfire. Asked by TellZim News on whether they would let Cham
Exiled former Zanu PF political commissar and minister Saviour Kasukuwere is eyeing a return to the party, almost three years after he was expelled following a military coup which collapsed the government of the late president Robert Mugabe. Kasukuwere, now living in South Africa, is still bitter about a leadership change in November 2017 in which the military decisively influenced Zanu PF’s succession politics as Mugabe’s former deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa took over. “I remain a card-carrying member of the party until due process is carried out in line with the party’s constitution. I remain committed to the unity of the party, which is key to sustainable national development,” Kasukuwere wrote on Twitter on Thursday, a day after Zanu PF’s acting sp
The MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe said it has adopted the MDC Alliance brand with immediate effect and will use the name when nominating candidates for by-elections on October 9. This was revealed by the MDC-T acting chairman Morgen Komichi on Saturday. He was speaking at the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House, formerly Harvest House to mark the 21st anniversary of the original MDC. However, in a statement posted on Twitter, the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa insisted on its identity and vowed to settle the “battle” politically. The statement read: We are the MDC Alliance. We contested the 2018 election as the MDC Alliance under the Presidency of Nelson Chamisa. Our members were unlawfully recalled on account of being members of the MDC Alliance. This battle wi
A POWER struggle that has been simmering for months between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his ambitious deputy, retired General Constantino Chiwenga, has intensified over the past two weeks, with factions said to belong to them fighting bitterly over control of re-introduced District Coordinating Committees (DCCs). Mnangagwa and the former Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander are fighting for the heart and soul of Zanu-PF and control of the levers of state power. The differences between the two emerged after the November 2017 coup over several issues, such as type of transitional arrangement, key appointments, including cabinet posts and Mnangagwa's tenure. The party resolved to re-introduce the DCCs in its structures last year, claiming they were the missing link in the coord
Exiled former member of Zanu PF, ex-Cabinet Minister and G40 branded kingpin Saviour Kasukuwere has vowed to remain a member of Zanu PF as long as due constitutional process was not done by the party to expell him. Communicating through his tweeter handle, Kasukuwere was responding to Acting Secretary of Information and Publicity for Zanu PF Cde Patrick Chinamasa whom he called 'dishonest'. Chinamasa speaking at a Politburo meeting in Harare, revealed that Kasukuwere and his brothers, including some G40 elements, were seeking to come back into the Zanu PF party but at the same time continued to peddle falsehoods about Zanu PF and the situation obtaining in the country. "There are some G-40 members who come and say they want to be readmitted, but go and work agai
NOTWITHSTANDING the internal damage that the MDC's infighting is causing, the party's senseless wars are escalating - amid growing fears that the once formidable movement could soon implode altogether. So bad is the MDC's mindless bloodletting pitting two rabidly antagonistic groups led by Thokozani Khupe and Nelson Chamisa, that dejected senior party officials told the Daily News last night that they were losing hope about the future of the political outfit that was founded by the revered, but now late Morgan Tsvangirai. This comes as political analysts have warned both Khupe and Chamisa that they risk becoming irrelevant due to their poor leadership and inability to resolve their differences - to the glee of the ruling Zanu-PF. "We are rudderless and leaderless.
MDC-T Acting Chairperson and Harare Senator Morgan Komichi, says his former party boss MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa should expect a beating in the upcoming December Council by-elections. Komichi is adamant they will win Speaking to Open Council on Tuesday following nationwide recall of councillors including Marondera, Beitbridge and Gwanda Mayors by his new party boss Thokozani Khupe, Komichi was adamant they will win. “Yes, we will retain all Councillors throughout the country,” Komichi replied when asked if the MDC-T is confident of winning the upcoming by-elections. Komichi said his party structures are already on the ground leading the door to door campaign ahead of the by-elections. “Our structures are already on the ground doing door t

Mamombe’s lawyer, Alec Muchadehama told the court that his client is sick and admitted at a Muchadehama said Mamombe’s doctors told him that she was suffering from anxiety problems and could not attend court. MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora says the level of intolerance being displayed by Nelson Chamisa was not only shocking but totally repugnant of modern dictates of common decency in leadership. This follows attacks on him by the MDC Alliance leader at the burial of a party official over the weekend. “I learnt with dismay the unprovoked utterances against my person attributed to Advocate Chamisa at the recent funeral service of the late Hon Miriam Mushayi,” Mwonzora said. “The unfortunate diatribe against my person, characterised by the unsavoury name calling was not only unfortunate but regrettable given that this was coming from a man calling himself the people’s president. “The level of intolerance displayed by the president of the Alliance
The MDC Alliance has rejected Zanu-PF attempts to link the party to the shooting death of a soldier in Chivhu last week, and claims that Zimbabwe's main opposition party is training insurgents in Serbia and Moldova. Zanu-PF acting spokesman Patrick Chinamasa made the claims at a news conference on Friday. Referring to the Chivhu incident where a soldier was shot dead and two others wounded after two men shot at them apparently unprovoked, Chinamasa said the ruling party had been "taken aback by statements of disparagement and ridicule coming from the MDC Alliance rank and file where they appear to be celebrating the attacks on the security forces, while pouring their hearts out for the assailants." "We have taken note," Chinamasa said, speaking at the Zanu-
