A Mother of the Motherless Has Rested. A Void No One Can Fill.

On the 2nd of September 2026, heaven quietly opened its doors and called home a rare soul.

Everjoyce Ennarrah Joy Sibongile Mazvita Mavaza, aged 72, went to be with the Lord. She did not just die. A library burnt down. A hospital closed. A mother's kitchen stopped cooking. And with her departure, the world has become a little colder, a little emptier and very, very sorrowful.

How do you write about a sister who was more than a sister?

How do you mourn a mother who mothered the whole village?

How do you say goodbye to someone who never learned how to say no to anyone in pain?

Everjoyce was love itself. A love so deep and so wide it knew no boundaries, no tribe, no bloodline. If love were a person, it would have her face.

Her journey was one of courage and sacrifice that many will never understand. As a young girl, thirsty for knowledge and driven to serve, she left everything familiar and went to Malawi where she trained as a Nurse at Palombe Mission. In a foreign land, she studied by lamplight, worked with calloused hands, and graduated with a Diploma in Nursing. For her, it was not just a certificate to hang on a wall - it was a calling to bind the wounds of her people.

She returned home, hands ready to heal, heart ready to serve, only to find a Rhodesia that did not welcome a black, educated, fearless woman who dared to look a white man in the eye.

For daring to be equal, for daring to fight racial inequality, for refusing to bow, she was arrested, tortured and detained without trial. They took her young body and broke it in dark cells. They wanted to break her spirit. They failed. She endured the pain of detention, the humiliation, the scars that no one could see, because she believed - deeply believed - that a better Zimbabwe was coming. She bled for this country before it was even born.

She served with distinction at Andrew Fleming Hospital, now Parirenyatwa Hospital, where her gentle hands wiped away tears and healed wounds. To her patients, she was not just Nurse Mavaza. She was sister. She was mother. She was comforter. She would hold the hand of a dying stranger as if he were her own brother.

She later became the beloved wife of Alimot Manyimo, an accounts clerk with Windmill Zimbabwe, building a home anchored in love and respect. Life, as it often does, was not always kind to her. The marriage broke down, and a part of her was dented. A part of her heart was bruised. But even a dented heart kept beating for others. Even a wounded Joy kept giving joy to others. She never allowed her own pain to stop her from healing others.

Because her greatest qualification was not in her nursing diploma. It was in her heart.

Joy, as we lovingly called her, was a mother to the motherless. Oh, how she mothered! While some count their money, she counted the children she could send to school. While some built perimeter walls to keep people out, she broke down walls to bring people in. She fed the hungry when her own cupboard was empty. She clothed the naked when she had only one dress. She schooled the forgotten when she herself had been forgotten by many. Her house was never hers alone - it belonged to every orphan, every struggling niece, every neighbour's child who needed a place to sleep.

She sent many to school and never once asked for repayment. Her reward was seeing them graduate.

To me, she was not just a sister. She was my first mother. My confidante. My covering. My prayer warrior. When I was weak, she was strong for me. When I was lost, she was my compass. Her love was a safety net that never allowed me to fall. She called me, she checked on me, she rebuked me with love, she prayed for me with tears.

Now that net is gone. And I am standing here, a grown man, a Doctor, but feeling like a small orphaned boy, learning how to stand in a wind that is too strong, too cruel.

Who will call me with that voice full of laughter and prayer? That voice that would say "Mwanangu" and all my fears would disappear?

Who will love us so selflessly? Who will keep our family together now that the glue is gone?

72 years was not enough for a heart so big. We wanted 100 more years. We needed 100 more years. But God, in His infinite wisdom, looked down and saw that the angels needed a nurse. Heaven needed a mother for the motherless. He needed an angel who knows how to heal, how to comfort, how to mother - even in heaven.

You have left a void, Sisi. Not a small void. A big, hollow, aching, bleeding void that no one else can ever fill. The walls of our family home echo with your absence. Your chair is empty. Your plates are still there. Your laughter still lingers in the corridors, but we can no longer touch you.

My sister, my mother, my hero - if tears could build a stairway to heaven, I would have climbed up to bring you back.

But I know you are resting. Finally resting from the torture, from the heartbreak, from carrying the burdens of the whole world on your small shoulders.

Rest well, our Nurse. Rest well, our freedom fighter who fought without a gun. Rest well, our Mother Teresa of the Mavaza clan.

You fought a good fight. You loved a good love. You finished your race with grace.

Go and rest in the arms of the Lord whom you served so faithfully.

Until we meet again on that beautiful shore where there will be no more arrests, no more torture, no more broken marriages, no more tears.

These controls can include multifactor authentication, endpoint detection, backups, patch management, email filtering, employee training, and privileged access restrictions.

Cyber insurance applications have become more detailed. Insurers may ask whether multifactor authentication is used for email, remote access, administrator accounts, and cloud systems. They may ask about backups, encryption, endpoint protection, firewalls, vulnerability scanning, incident response plans, vendor access, and security training. Answer honestly. Inaccurate answers can create problems during a claim.

Not every cyber event is covered. Common exclusions may involve prior known incidents, war or nation-state activity, bodily injury, infrastructure failure, intentional acts, failure to maintain required controls, unencrypted devices, or losses outside policy definitions. Because exclusions can be broad, review the policy with someone who understands cyber risk.

Small businesses should also ask about the insurer's response team. A strong cyber policy is not just a reimbursement document. It should connect the business with breach coaches, forensic firms, ransomware response vendors, public relations support, and legal resources. In an incident, speed matters. Knowing who to call can reduce confusion.

Cyber insurance pricing depends on revenue, industry, data type, employee count, security controls, claims history, remote access, vendor exposure, and coverage limits. Health care, financial services, legal firms, schools, professional services, and e-commerce businesses may face higher scrutiny because they handle sensitive data or payments.
