US$75 000 Heist: Lulu Muteke’s Parents Targeted By Armed Robbers
Police have launched an investigation after US$75 000 in cash was stolen during a daring armed robbery at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera. The robbery happened just days after businessman Wicknell Chivayo paid lobola for his wife, Lulu Muteke.
ZimLive reported the shocking incident,
The attack reportedly took place in the early hours of the morning, with up to 19 armed robbers storming the farm and making off with the large sum of money.
Was It Lobola Money?
Chivayo had earlier set the record straight on his lobola payment. He denied paying US$300 000 as some reports had suggested. Instead, he revealed that the actual lobola amount was much lower.
“My in-laws charged me not more than US$20 000 for lobola,” Chivayo told H-Metro.
The businessman explained that while he had set aside extra money, he did not need to use it for the lobola ceremony.
“I had an additional US$75 000 in my car as a contingency, but it remained unused. The main costs of the event went towards entertainment, decor, and drinks.”
Now, with the armed robbery taking place so soon after the ceremony, speculation is growing over whether the stolen money was linked to the funds Chivayo had set aside.
A Well-Planned Attack
Sources say the robbers appeared to have inside knowledge of the cash being stored at the farm. The large number of attackers and their swift escape have raised questions about how they knew where to strike.
P
olice have not yet made any arrests, but investigations are ongoing.
Chivayo has not commented on the robbery, and his in-laws have also remained silent.
