HUNDREDS of mourners gathered at President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s homestead in Bikita this Sunday, joining the Head of State, the First Family, senior Government officials, ZANU PF leadership and the local community for the burial of his niece, Shamiso Mnangagwa, who died on Friday after a short illness.
Family members, relatives, friends and political leaders united in mourning as tributes were paid to Shamiso, whose life was remembered for her kindness, humility and respect.The First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, expressed profound sorrow over Shamiso’s passing, saying the family would forever cherish her life, the love she shared and the values she embodied.
She also urged mothers to remain positive role models, saying while mothers shape the character and values of their children, every child belongs to and is nurtured by the wider community.
“Shamiso was a gentle, kind, and respectful woman. Whenever I visited this home, she was always the first to welcome me. The last time I came here, I was surprised that she did not come out to receive me. I assumed she had gone out, only to be told that she was unwell and was suffering from pain in her legs,” she said.
President Dr Mnangagwa reflected on Shamiso’s life, describing her as a promising young woman whose life had been cut short.This young lady who has brought us together today . She has been taken so young and so promising. She was still a bright flower in the family. We thought she would have a longer life. She was a very talented young lady, and she was respectful. Hardworking and generally kind. She had a good education. She laughed at all times.
“I remember Vice President Muzenda would say if a visitor is coming and the mother of the house wanted flowers to decorate the house, they would pick the beautiful ones Only God knows where the spirit of the dead rests. We say you the Lord gave us and you have taken,” he said.
President Mnangagwa also thanked all who came to be with the family during this difficult time .
“I thank you all for coming to be with us as we mourn. This has eased our burden and made us strong as a family as we realise we have friends and family,” he said.
Among the top leadership who joined the first family were politburo members who included Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, Cde Lovemore Matuke, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa and Masvingo’s Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Ezra Chadzamira .
