A livestock supplier has accused Harare-based butcher chain kalos meats butcheries. abbatoir and farms of failing to pay for 20 pigs delivered more than a month ago, raising fresh concerns over alleged unfair business practices affecting small-scale farmers and suppliers.

The complainant claims he supplied 20 porkers to Kalos Meats' Kambuzuma 5 branch on May 23, 2026, after responding to a Facebook advertisement in which the company reportedly invited farmers with pigs, chickens and goats to supply livestock to meet what it described as a ready market.

According to the supplier, he contacted a manager whose details were provided in the advertisement and was informed that payment would be made within 14 days of delivery.

The pigs were allegedly received by a company employee identified only as Chipo.

"I asked about the terms and conditions before supplying. I was told payment would be made within 14 days," said the complainant.

As the payment deadline approached, the supplier says he contacted the manager on the 13th day and was advised to wait until the agreed 14-day period had elapsed.

However, after the payment date passed, the supplier claims he was repeatedly told there was no money available and was instructed to return on a later date.

"I went back after 19 days and was told there was no money. They asked me to come back the following Friday. I waited, but by then it was already a month since I had delivered the pigs," he said.

The supplier alleges that subsequent attempts to contact company representatives were unsuccessful, with phone calls reportedly going unanswered and WhatsApp messages ignored.

He further claims that when he used a different phone number to call the manager, the call was answered, but no commitment was made regarding payment.

The complainant says he has preserved screenshots of conversations and audio messages allegedly exchanged with company representatives regarding the outstanding payment.

The allegations have sparked concern among small-scale suppliers, many of whom rely on timely payments to sustain their farming operations and meet day-to-day business expenses.

The supplier expressed disappointment that the business is reportedly owned by a pastor, saying he expected higher ethical standards in dealing with struggling entrepreneurs.

At the time of publication, Kalos Meats had not responded to the allegations. Efforts to obtain comment from the company were continuing.
