Mt Hampden Man Arrested After Squandering Nephew’s US$17k on Betting Spree in 13 Days

A 33-year-old man from Mt Hampden has been arrested after blowing his nephew’s US$17 100 on a rapid betting spree that lasted less than two weeks.

..

Munyaradzi Gumunyu appeared before a Harare magistrate over the weekend facing theft charges, in a case that has stunned both his family and the community.

Money Handed Over for Safe Keeping

According to court documents seen by The Herald, the complainant, Brandon Chirisa, entrusted Gumunyu with the money on 9 November at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport as he prepared to leave for the United Kingdom.

Gumunyu was supposed to deliver the cash to Chirisa’s sister, Florence Hove, the following day — a simple family favour that quickly spiralled out of control.

Thirteen Days, One EcoCash Wallet, and a Betting Account

Instead of handing over the money, Gumunyu allegedly began spending it almost immediately.

..Prosecutors say that between 10 and 23 November, he transferred the funds into his EcoCash wallet and moved large amounts into his Africabet account, where he placed numerous bets.

By the end of the 13-day period, the entire US$17 100 had reportedly been lost.Addiction yechindege hamusikuiziva anoita ma drugs same

Artificial Intelligence and Automation Are Reshaping Global Industries

Artificial intelligence and automation technologies are transforming industries across the world at an unprecedented pace. Businesses are using AI-powered systems to automate repetitive tasks, analyze data faster, improve customer service, and increase operational efficiency. Industries including healthcare, banking, transportation, agriculture, and retail are all experiencing major technological changes driven by AI innovation.

AI-powered chatbots, recommendation systems, fraud detection software, and predictive analytics tools are becoming common across digital platforms. Businesses are increasingly investing in machine learning technology to improve decision-making and reduce operating costs. In healthcare, AI systems are assisting doctors with diagnoses, patient monitoring, and medical research.

Automation is also changing the global workforce by reducing the need for some traditional jobs while creating demand for new digital skills. Technology experts encourage workers to focus on cybersecurity, software development, data analysis, and digital marketing skills to remain competitive in evolving job markets.

Best Credit Cards For Balance Transfers

A balance transfer credit card can help you pay down high-interest credit card debt faster. These cards often offer a low or 0% introductory APR for a limited time, allowing more of your payment to go toward the balance instead of interest.

rnrn

The best balance transfer credit card depends on the length of the intro APR period, transfer fee, regular APR, credit limit, and your payoff plan.

rnrn

A longer 0% APR period gives you more time to pay off the debt without interest. However, many cards charge a balance transfer fee, often a percentage of the amount transferred. You should calculate whether the interest savings are greater than the fee.

rnrn

Balance transfers work best when you have a plan. Divide your total balance by the number of months in the promotional period. This tells you how much you need to pay each month to clear the debt before interest begins.

rnrn

For example, if you transfer $6,000 and have 18 months of 0% APR, you would need to pay about $334 per month to pay it off before the promotional period ends.

rnrn

Avoid using the new card for extra purchases. New spending can make it harder to pay down the balance and may not qualify for the same promotional terms.

rnrn

Your credit score matters. The best balance transfer cards usually require good or excellent credit. If your credit is limited or damaged, you may not qualify for the longest promotional offers.

rnrn

A balance transfer card can save money, but only if you stay disciplined. If you miss payments, your promotional APR could end, and fees may apply.

rnrn

The best card is not just the one with the longest 0% period. It is the one that matches your payoff timeline, fees, and financial discipline.
