Rusape Train Tragedy: Young Life Lost, Community in Mourning
A devastating train accident in Rusape on Saturday has left a community in shock and mourning, after a young man was struck and killed by a train. The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) confirmed the incident, but did not release the victim's age or further details.
Eyewitnesses report that the man was rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to Mutare General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The NRZ has extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, urging the public to exercise extreme caution when approaching railway tracks.
According to unofficial sources, the young man who lost his life has been identified as Lyvin Mapiye, a resident of Rusape. Additionally, sources close to the incident claim that the young man was wearing earpods at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to his failure to hear the approaching train.
In an official statement, the NRZ revealed that the young man suffered severe injuries, including the loss of both legs, before succumbing to his injuries. "We urge everyone to be mindful of the dangers posed by railway tracks and to take necessary precautions to avoid such tragic incidents," said the NRZ.
This tragic incident is the latest in a series of level crossing accidents that have raised concerns about rail safety in the country. Just days earlier, a couple was injured in a similar accident in Chiredzi, while another incident in Gweru saw a vehicle struck by a train, fortunately without injury.
As the authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the Rusape accident, the community is coming together to support the family of the deceased. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution when interacting with railway infrastructure.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Lyvin Mapiye. May he
