I never believed it when people said that the government's heath system in Zimbabwe is a total mess.
On the 9th of September 2026, I went to Mpilo hospital in Bulawayo with my wife because she was now in labor. We got there and there was no electricity, she was suppose to have an emergency C-section but when we got there there was someone in theater and apparently they couldn't open another one because it's against their hospital policy. Fine, she ended up being made to give birth the natural way and my baby died during birth. Wifey got stitches and was sent to a different ward without any medication to ease the pain, sad part is they never prescribed anything for her up until she was discharged.
Can you imagine not being able to sleep because you're in excruciating pain. I remember asking her if she had told the nurse that she's in pain and needed medication and the nurse said that there wasn't any.
What pains me the most is that I had to use my flashlight as my wife was giving birth. What kind of mismanagement is this that's in our government hospitals? No priorities?
Where are the solars, back up generators, basic medication for patients?
The crazy part is one short, dark matron from the labour ward said something like "why would you bring her to a public hospital why not go to a private hospital." Like did she really think that if I could afford one would I even bother myself by being there?
I understand there has been a series of cables thefts at the facility but why not have things like solars in place, or backup generators. There was literally darkness in with entire facility where I was at.
