MDC speaks on claims that Chamisa faces arrest. Mutodi had posted on Twitter reiterating the claims which were previously made on social media which suggested that Chamisa had directed into personal use the $2 million dollars which MDC was allocated under the Parties Act.
The Opposition Movement for Democratic Party (MDC) has dismissed allegations by the Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi, that Nelson Chamisa faces arrest for misusing party coffers. Mutodi said:
Commotion in MDC-Alliance as over 40 MDCT legislators disagree with the decision to withdraw from Parliament. Chamisa also faces arrest for misappropriating party funds.
In response, the MDC said:
Stop telling malicious, defamatory lies. President @nelsonchamisa has no power to misappropriate party funds as he is not a signatory to any of the party accounts. Only the Treasurer-General @DavidColtart & Secretary-General @hwendec control party finances.
Reports of abuse of party funds are some of many allegations levelled at some individuals in the MDC’s leadership when the leadership crisis in the party became clearly pronounced.
Some leaders including Douglas Mwonzora Morgen Komichi, Thokozani Khupe and Elias Mudzuri have been accused of working with the ruling ZANU PF to take power from Nelson Chamisa.
