HARARE — Residents of Dzivarasekwa Extension are reeling after a 20-year-old man, Ashley Patrick Magarira, died by suicide following reported losses in the online gambling game popularly known as Kandege.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Community sources say he allegedly lost about US$800, money believed to have been meant for his younger brother’s school fees, while playing the betting game Aviator. A neighbour described the incident as a wake-up call for families worried about the growing impact of gambling among youths.

 

Magarira’s body was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Authorities had not issued an official statement at the time of publication.
