Jecha South Africa Blocks EFF Permission To Blockade Beitbridge Border Post

Zimbabwe opposition party, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said that it was forced to call off a planned demonstration at Beitbridge Border Post after it failed to secure permission from the South African government.

The opposition party had planned to “blockade” the border between Zimbabwe and South Africa on 31 August in protest over the crackdown on human rights defenders and journalists in Zimbabwe by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.
EFF president Innocent Ndibali told NewZimbabwe.com that his party had to cancel the planned demonstration after Pretoria did not give the green light for the event to go ahead. He said:

Due to multiple factors beyond our control, EFF Zimbabwe has with difficulty and sadness seen it necessary to call off the planned protest.

Until last night, EFF Zimbabwe had not been able to secure permission from the South African authorities to hold a peaceful protest at the Border Post despite EFF Zimbabwe making an application and notification of our plans.
