MYSTERY surrounds the death of a Zengeza man who was burnt to death while in his sleep.
Luke Tongesai Madzivire was alone in his bedroom when the room caught fire.
Neighbours saw some burning roof sheets, rushed with buckets of water but Luke had already died.
He was 68.
Family members, who included Luke’s wife, Chido Mutyakanda, said she left home at around 9am to visit a friend while their daughter Linda Madzivire, 35, had gone to work.
The community is in shock, grappling with the loss of a loved community member.
Chido described her husband as loving and caring.
“I left home to look for cassava since my husband wanted it very much,” said Chido.
“I was shocked to see a crowd at my house upon returning.
“He has been sick for some time.

“It’s so painful, he died a bitter man,” said Chido.
Her daughter Linda was still in shock.
“Someone phoned me about the death of my father but I did not take it seriously since I had left him in sound shape,” said Linda.
“Another person phoned asking me to bring an ambulance and I also ignored it.
“I later became suspicious after I kept getting calls and that forced me to board a kombi and rushed home to be met by neighbours in tears.
