The pastor claimed that while recovering in hospital he experienced what he described as an angelic visitation before making what he called a remarkable recovery.Whilst in hospital I had angelic visitation and experienced an amazing healing and recovery and in three days came out of the hospital,” he said.
Despite the traumatic experience, Tembo said he continued with the church mission to Uganda after his discharge, travelling onward to Kampala and Soroti.
Tembo is one of Andrew Wutaunashe’s most recognisable associates and has frequently appeared alongside the preacher at major church events across the region. He also featured prominently during engagements involving church leaders and international religious figures, including discussions in which church representatives were reminded that support and sanctions relief should benefit those who do not exploit the poor.
The circumstances surrounding the accident itself remain unclear, and Tembo did not disclose what caused the crash.
His announcement has triggered an outpouring of messages from supporters across Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Uganda, with many expressing relief that the pastor survived an incident he himself described as a journey through “the valley of the shadow of deathPastor Anthony Tembo, a prominent figure within Wutaunashe’s church network and one of the preacher’s most visible lieutenants, disclosed the ordeal in a public statement marking his birthday.
Tembo said the accident occurred on 6 May 2026 while he was travelling from Harare to Kampala, Uganda, on church business.
The pastor described the incident as a brush with death, saying he lost a significant amount of blood and was rushed to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital in Lusaka where doctors performed a six-hour operation to save his life.
“I passed through the valley of the shadow of death in Lusaka, Zambia,” Tembo wrote.
“Had it not been of the Lord I was close to my death after losing a lot of blood. I was rushed to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital and had surgery for six hours in the theatre.”
