A Milton Park man in Harare was humiliated by a group of sex workers after failing to pay the agreed US$20 for their services.
The man, identified only as Tony, met a 19-year-old sex worker known as Mai Chimwana on Tuesday night while walking home. Although he only had US$10, he agreed to pay US$20 and followed her to an apartment at Gail Court along Samora Machel Avenue.
Tony said he was surprised to find five different beds inside the room. During the night, other women returned and slept in the same room, with some watching him from their beds. He said the situation made him uncomfortable and he stayed awake, worried that his belongings might be stolen.
The following morning, Tony tried to leave without paying the agreed amount. Mai Chimwana called other sex workers for help, and they forced him to sit naked on the floor while threatening to pour raw sewage on him. They also confiscated items he was carrying.
Tony said he hoped to get the money later and pay after collecting payment from a client. However, Mai Chimwana said Tony knew the agreed price before entering the apartment and accused him of refusing to pay after spending the night. She added that she had reduced her usual charge from US$40 to US$20 because she wanted to leave the streets for the night.
