Zimbabwean man arrested in Botswana after being found with suspected human remains
A 28-year-old Zimbabwean man, Nyasha Mudzongeri, has been remanded in prison in Botswana after appearing in court over a case involving suspected human remains.
Mudzongeri appeared before the Francistown Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, facing two counts of entering Botswana through an unauthorised point of entry without proper travel documents and unlawful possession of suspected human flesh or remains. During his arrest, Mudzongeri told police that he was a spiritual healer.
According to the Botswana Police Service, Mudzongeri was arrested by the Gerald Police on 13 September 2026 near Shashe Mooke Village.
Police said suspected human remains and other exhibits recovered during the investigation have been handed over to the Botswana Police Service Forensic Science Services Laboratory for detailed forensic examination.
The tests are expected to help investigators establish the origin and nature of the suspected remains and determine whether they can provide further evidence in the case.
Mudzongeri was remanded in custody and is expected to return to court on 18 September 2026 as investigations continue.
