43-year-old woman has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for culpable homicide

GWERU — A 43-year-old woman has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for culpable homicide after performing a traditional razor-blade procedure on an 18-month-old toddler, which severed a sublingual artery and caused the child to bleed to death.

Chipiwa Majasi, of Village 3, Kugutakurima under Chief Mposi in Mberengwa, appeared before the High Court of Zimbabwe sitting at Gweru. The court suspended two years of her 10-year sentence on condition of good behaviour, leaving an effective eight-year custodial sentence.

The fatal incident occurred on March 5, 2026, at Runyararo Complex in Vanguard, Mberengwa.

At approximately 0700 hours, the mother of the child, identified as Ruvarashe Mafikeni, invited Majasi to the family residence to perform a traditional incision procedure intended to remedy the toddler's reported speech difficulty.

Court details show that Majasi used a razor blade to cut the lower membrane of the child's tongue before departing the home. The toddler subsequently fell asleep and was later discovered without signs of life at approximately 1400 hours.

Ruvarashe was conveyed to Mberengwa District Hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead. A post-mortem examination established the cause of death as hemorrhagic shock, caused by a sublingual artery laceration and tongue injury.

The matter was reported to the police, resulting in Majasi’s arrest and subsequent conviction. - Zimbo LIVE HarareHarisi basa rake iro ngaaende kujeri.... namai vomwana vaifanira kusungwa futi kuchipatara havakuzivi herA debt consolidation loan is usually a personal loan used to pay off credit cards, medical bills, store cards, payday loans, or other unsecured debts. After the old balances are paid, the borrower makes one fixed monthly payment to the new lender. The main appeal is simplicity. One due date, one payment, and one payoff timeline can make budgeting easier.

The biggest potential benefit is a lower interest rate. Credit cards often charge variable rates that can rise over time. A fixed-rate personal loan may offer a predictable payment and a defined end date. If the new loan has a lower rate and you avoid new debt, consolidation can reduce interest costs and speed up payoff.

However, the monthly payment is not the only number to review. A longer repayment term can lower the monthly payment while increasing total interest paid. For example, stretching debt over several years may feel easier each month but cost more overall. Always compare total repayment, not just the payment amount.

Fees matter too. Some lenders charge origination fees, late fees, returned payment fees, or prepayment penalties. An origination fee may be deducted from the loan amount, which means you receive less money than expected. Compare the annual percentage rate because it includes certain finance charges and gives a better apples-to-apples view than the interest rate alone.

Credit score impact can go in different directions. Applying for a loan may create a hard inquiry. Opening a new account can reduce the average age of credit. However, paying down credit card balances may improve credit utilization, which can help some borrowers over time. The biggest factor remains making on-time payments.

The Role of Technology in Healthcare Innovation

Technology has transformed healthcare systems worldwide by improving medical research, patient care, and disease prevention. Hospitals and healthcare providers increasingly use digital systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, and telemedicine to improve treatment outcomes and operational efficiency.

Telemedicine allows patients to consult doctors remotely using smartphones and video conferencing platforms. This has become especially valuable in rural communities and regions with limited healthcare infrastructure. Electronic medical records also improve information sharing between healthcare professionals and reduce administrative errors.

Medical researchers use advanced technology to develop vaccines, analyze diseases, and improve surgical procedures. Robotic-assisted surgeries allow doctors to perform complex operations with greater precision and shorter recovery times. Wearable devices such as fitness trackers and smartwatches help individuals monitor health conditions and physical activity.

Space Exploration and the Search for Life Beyond Earth

Space exploration has fascinated humanity for generations, inspiring scientific discoveries and technological innovation. Governments and private companies are investing billions of dollars into missions designed to explore the Moon, Mars, and distant regions of the universe. Advances in rocket technology, satellite systems, and astronomy are expanding human understanding of space and the possibility of life beyond Earth.

One major goal of modern space programs is establishing long-term human presence on other planets. Space agencies such as NASA and private companies are developing technologies that could allow astronauts to live and work on Mars in the future. Scientists believe Mars may contain evidence of ancient water systems and potentially microbial life forms that existed billions of years ago.

Space exploration also contributes significantly to technological advancement on Earth. Satellite technology supports communication systems, weather forecasting, navigation services, and disaster management worldwide. Medical research conducted in space environments has also improved healthcare technologies and scientific understanding of human biology.

Despite these challenges, interest in space exploration continues growing globally. Scientists believe future discoveries could provide valuable information about planetary systems, the origins of the universe, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Space exploration represents one of humanity’s greatest scientific and technological ambitions.
