SO SAD??:A 16-year-old girl from Nguboyenja suburb has died after allegedly ingesting poison shortly after checking her November 2025 Ordinary Level examination results, police have confirmed.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the teenager accessed her results online on January 16 and became distressed after discovering she had passed two subjects out of seven.
She later allegedly consumed a pesticide kept at home. Relatives intervened and rushed her to Mpilo Central Hospital, where she died shortly after admission.
Police have urged young people facing emotional distress to seek help from parents, teachers, counsellors, or trusted adults, and appealed to guardians to keep hazardous substances out of children’s reach.
The incident has renewed calls for stronger psychosocial support for learners following the release of examination results.
