DJ Fantan & Levels Sentenced To 12 Months In Jail

Popular music producers DJ Fantan and Levelz of Chillspot Records have been sentenced to 12 months in prison for hosting a musical bash in Mbare on New Year’s Eve. The two will spend 6 months in prison after the court suspended 6 months from their sentence. DJ Fantan, real name Arnold Kamudyariwa (33), and Levelz, real name Tafadzwa Kadzimwe (31) together with Simbarashe “Dhama” Chanachimwe (27) were found guilty of ‘convening a public gathering during a national lockdown’ in contravention of Statutory Instrument 77 of 2020 of the COVID-19 regulations for hosting the musical bash. Police Warn People Do Not Go To Shebeens

Police have given a stern warning to those who will operate or patronise shebeens during the lockdown saying all those who will be found there will be arrested and appear in court. Due to a spike in Covid-19 cases and deaths, Zimbabwe on Saturday extended the nationwide curfew (6pm to 6am), banned gatherings and ordered non-essential businesses to close for a month in an effort to curb a surge in coronavirus infections. Vice-President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who is also Minister of Health and Child Care, announcing the additional lockdown measures on Saturday, said restaurants, bottle stores and bars are to be closed for 30 days except for those serving hotel residents. DJ Fantan, Levels and Dammer did not waste the court’s time and pleaded guilty to breaking the law by organising a bash on New Year’s eve in Mbare. The magistrate deferred sentence to tomorrow saying she needs to be thorough. The prosecutor, Michael Reza has asked for a custodial sentence of One year and $400 000 fine (each). MBARE’s New Year Eve music gig organisers Dhama, DJ Fantan and Levels admitted to violating the Covid-19 regulations by hosting the show when they appeared at the Harare magistrates court today. Dama, born Simbarashe Chanachimwe, DJ Fantan born Arnold Kamudyariwa, and Tafadzwa Kadzimwe known as Levels admitted to “partaking and contravening a public gathering during a national lockdown period” when they appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Mrs Vongai Guwuriro. Chillspot records co-founder, Levels, has also been arrested after he visited his partner, DJ Fantan taking him food to eat, currently detained at Matapi Police Station in Mbare. DJ Fantan and his promoter popularly known as Dhama were on Sunday arrested for participating in a prohibited gathering on New Year’s Eve in Mbare. 4 ZRP Officers Suspended Over DJ Fantan’s New Year’s Eve Bash

4 senior cops suspended over DJ Fantan’s New Year’s Eve bash. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has suspended four senior police officers from police duties for failing to stop the Mbare New Year’s Eve music concert hosted by DJ Fantan. The four are Superintendent Innocent Makumbe, Inspector Garikai Jiyane [Officer in Charge, Matapi], Inspector Peace Nyarai Gunhe [Duty Officer] and Assistant Inspector Vengai Mupamhanga [Duty Member].
